R&M Energy Systems recently announced a new addition to its even rubber thickness (ERT) stator line. The Moyno ERT technology is now available in a 2-7/8 in. power section, expanding the range of power sections that provide more than 100% greater power and torque for downhole drilling applications than conventional power sections of the same length.
By applying an even thickness of rubber to the stator contour and supporting each lobe with steel, the company has designed its Moyno ERT technology with an improved rotor/stator seal during operation. This higher quality seal increases power and torque output and allows the stator to withstand temperature swings, chemical attack, and loading with minimal changes to the rubber's dimensions. The ERT stators have internal contours that are precision-machined, rather than hydraulically formed, resulting in a high degree of durability.
This design effectively doubles the power output of the ERT stators compared to conventional stators, resulting in much higher rates of penetration for the driller.
In addition, the ERT's higher power density allows for shorter power sections to be used with performance outputs comparable to that of longer conventional product. This can improve the motor's directional response, as well as measurement-while-drilling and logging-while-drilling measurement quality by placing sensors closer to the bit.
The 2-7/8-in. stators are lined with the UltraFlex 114 elastomer, providing excellent fluid compatibility and resistance to explosive decompression. The stators can also be relined, which reduces operational costs.
